Into the Cauldron!

I find it strange that this beautiful awe-inspiring region of space doesn’t have its own popular name but is only known by its Messier (M78) and NGC (2068) designations.  M78 is a reflection nebula surrounded by a large region of dark nebulosity.  An associated nebula to the northeast is NGC 2071.  M78 lies in the constellation Orion at a distance of 1,630 light-years.  This is a single (original) Hyperstar frame comprising 114 sub-exposures of 60-seconds per sub.
